Vietnam – January 9th, 2016
Good Morning Saigon, Saigon is also known as Ho Chi Minh City since the end of the American occupation fall to the North Vietnamese forces is located near the Mekong Delta and it’s the largest city Vietnam, very western style in its architecture, and if would have its own flag it will be a red motor scooter they are close to 10 million, on some of the roads they have their own assigned lane but they are like ants scurrying around the city wherever they are going is in a hurry.
Like in all of Vietnam, people live their life’s gather in sidewalks, cafe, restaurants and shops.
A quick walk through the surrounding sites, Notre Dame, Post office with its a huge portrait of Uncle Ho, a walk through the outside of the reunification Palace’ a stop to pick up some more trinkets. ack to the hotel to check-in for our cruise, it is so hot and humid in Saigon, but this will set the tone for the rest of the trip, Hanoi was nice and cool.
We join the cruise passengers at our hotel for the 1 1/2 ride to My Tho a city port on the Mekong River – our guide explained that although Saigon lies on the river, the ship is not able to leave from Saigon, two reasons, if it goes out to the delta it will have to go into open seas and as a river design boat, the crossing will be with peril. Using the canals connecting Saigon to the river, dry season river to low, wet season river to high not enough bridge clearance for the boat – that is why the bus ride to My Tho.
Our ship the Jayavarman. Is a 4 story luxury with two decks of the cabin, our cabin is nicely appointed with an outside balcony and a full lovely large bathroom, including a rain shower.
The passengers is a mixed of Australian, British, Swiss and a few Americans – will socialize more tomorrow.
Afternoon was spent seating in our balcony watching life float by, along with multiple naps.
Dinner tonight was buffet very nice selection, and nice wine list – after dinner they are showing Good Morning Vietnam, David stayed to watch it I came back to my room, my body is all achy a side effect of the malaria pills we just start taking.
We docked at Cai Bae, for the night,
