The Oscars … Host or no Host, limited speech time, best songs performances out one day/in twenty seconds later, cut out categories – there was more drama preceding the broadcast than it created while on air The show is long and boring, except for “…who are you wearing..” ~ the fashions creating their own Drama……..

David delivered his usual fashion critiquing, with his digging and scathing commentaries as needed, as a small group of friends gathered at Eileen’s house, our host, during our short LA visit:

Lady Gaga was magnificent – dressed and singing and jewels, oh my (Tiffany!).
Melissa was a hoot but her B/W dress gets the boot ) :
Glenn Glose over-the-top in Gold – she jinxed herself.
Loved JLo in that mirrored Mummy dress (wrapped so tight!)
Kacey Musgraves in that pink cupcake confection – she shoulda been sent back to the bakery – overbaked.
Brie Larson – her dress was ill fitting – her booby fat was sticking out
Regina King’s white glamour puss dress KILLED!
Pharell Williams Little Boy Shtick is SICK – he’s gotta grow up – he should star in an all new version of Peter Pan!

We LOVED “Roma” – saw it down here in the theater – incredible film and sweeping sensual cinematography. Would love to watch it again on Netflix.

Can someone please explain to me how can a film win Best Picture without its Director being nominated?! It’s a puzzlement.

Paraphrasing “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” – “L.A.’s a great big freeway …” and boy, it sure is and we’re so happy to have left all that traffic nonsense behind. We were heading back home on our short, early morning flight, but not before an overweight scare at LAX. Oh boy, I panicked – this is going to be some expensive Girl Scout Cookies that we’re packing. Our check-in agent, Bridgette, told us our two big suitcases were overweight (David’s candy cache!). Smartly, I replied when you combined all 4 pieces that we are not. I got a smile out of her and plunked down my credit card with an “It is what it is.” She handed back our passports and boarding passes and somehow forgot about our overweight situation and waved us away with a smile. Gotta love Alaska Airlines.

Lisa, our flight attendant, could not be done enough for us after she recognized me from my weekly commutes to Mexico City during my last work assignment. It was my blue eyeglasses that she recalled. A little bit of fashion style can go a long way.

Back home and de-stressing from our La La rush trip … it was back to our daily routines. The most exciting thing this week was lunch at Spago, correction, Spago’s – they had to add the “s” I’m sure in order to not violate trademark laws. We were expecting something new and exciting, but were terribly disappointed – it was the same old, tired lakeside menus of paninis and salads…….my Caprese panini left me flat. I didn’t even try the side of coleslaw or the tired fruit presented and to add insult to injury the prices were “gringosized” …..guess it won’t be making my top list. Restaurants here come and go in a flash and this one’s trying to be the flashiest of all.

David keeps getting up every morning, camera in hand, to photograph our backyard visitors – there always seem to be new ones landing daily.
