“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end” Sunny, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
It’s been more than a week since my last update. Life just got a little bit busier.
A week ago Sunday was David’s day in the clouds – that evening we were seeing Ronnie Spector and The Ronettes (“Be My Baby”) down the coast in San Clemente. Our friends, Jude & Steve, have connections and what connections they are – we’re talking the VIP type. Ronnie places David in a Golden Oldies musical trance. What a great evening it was!
A few half days of life maintenance: doctors, dentists, cars being serviced………and the selection of what goes/what stays has begun.
On Thursday we picked up Beth and Jake at LAX for a short visit (my sister-in-law and nephew). Jake is officially a teenager and a budding Chef, Baker, and a full carnivore. Both he and David baked cookies. David supervised him in the kitchen as he prepared two of our dinners that included homemade chimichurri, baked potatoes, sautéed vegetables and meat, and more meat…..and with a side of fish for myself.
We attended the King Tut exhibit at the Natural History Museum. It’s a very well-edited exhibition including pieces that had not previously been shown outside Egypt. This is the last stop of the tour before it returns next year to the new Egypt Antiquities Museum outside Giza – guess a new trip is in order.
Jake joined our Yoga class early Saturday morning. He probably thought these people are odd, but easily and nimbly took to the routine – especially the big breakfast get-together afterward. We also took him swimming at friends Jude & Steve’s pool in Long Beach for a lovely afternoon and a very surprising poolside lunch they so graciously provided.
On Monday Jake and Beth continued onto Las Vegas. Aunt Beth was taking the kid to Gordon Ramsey Steak House as part of his birthday gift……..wish I had an auntie like that.
Today was our appointment at the Mexican consulate downtown for our Residency Visas. Since arriving home, I’ve been collecting a year’s worth of banking, IRA and Roth statements to prove our financial status, for there are certain requirements you must meet. So I‘d printed up at least half a ream of paper. She needed just about 20 pages worth and our marriage certificate (had to quickly drive home and back for the original – yeesh!). We met with the Mexican Counsel for a few questions, a few signatures from her, and voila! – we were issued our permanent residency visas.
Since we were basically across from the famous Langers Jewish Deli (since 1947) we celebrated and guess who had pastrami for lunch (and leftovers for the next 3 days?!)
Met with the estate salesperson … lots of work ahead. Tomorrow meeting with the movers…..it will get done, it will get done. . .
