Cambodia – January 14th, 2016

This morning we rode on tuk tuks as we made our way through the the silk island of Oknha Tey.

We walked through the village and visited weavers and the silk process was explained – although Cambodia imports most of its raw silks. There are not enough mulberry tree farms to support local production, of course, you always exit through the gift shops, a few items found their way to our luggage.

Back to the ship for a fashion show of local costumes by the staff and a few passengers volunteers, and a talk about the environmental effect of the new 2 hydroelectric dams that China is building for the Laotian government.

This afternoon farther upriver, we visit a typical riverside village as we meandered through lanes and alleys and sometimes people’s front or backyards.

Tonight, Wendy Ana’s lovely London couple ask her to join her and another couple for dinner, what a lovely time we had – we felt bad abandoning our dinner companions – but the conversation was most interesting – found that Gyles and Sandra own a working Estate in Falmouth on the south coast of England – a most interesting couple and Gyles has hitched hiked from Patagonia to Toronto – Wendy has worked for arms dealer in the ’70s now arts and culture consulting to corporations on sponsorships, Andrew is Doctor and still in part-time practice, and Sandra manages the Estate / most interesting lives.

We had invaded by moths and bugs, so no outside bar or upper deck.
