Singapore – January 21th, 2016
Today was shopping, shopping, shopping and we dropped. I need to re-finance the house just to pay for Baby Gomez’s purchases. We started with budget shopping and ended with if you have to ask the price you can’t afford it.
Mustafa Center in Little India, just imagine the average CostCo is 145,000 square feet – Mustafa Center is 400,000 square feet spread over 6 floors, in 2 buildings with over 300,000 items and it’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – a great way to hyper-shop. We spent about 3 hours aimlessly lost. The excitement was wondering what treasures were lurking around the next aisle, and we found a few.
I bought ice cream from a cart ran by an elderly couple, a slice was cut from a block of very good mint chip ice cream and I ate the Singapore way – placed on soft rainbow-striped white bread and folded over the block of ice cream and a then eaten like a hot dog. The ice cream broke the language barrier and I got the biggest warmest smile from the couple,
Next, stop Takashimaya a high-end Japanese department store that first opened in Kyoto in 1831 – it will be the equivalent of Bloomingdales and Macy’s combined and throw a piece of Saks. Merchandise selection was overwhelming they carry a huge selection from moderate to high end, including electronics and their housewares department lets say I was ready to hire a shipping container.
Their hawker food court had unlimited choices and the exquisite purveyors of chocolate boutiques that are not familiar names in America left David quivering we wanted to buy from them all, we settled on Royce since our new Australian friends had raved about it – but he quickly snapped when over at the market area he found a new flavor of Oreos cookies coconut cream.
We also stopped at Tang the main Singapore retailer that first opened in 1923′ the equivalent to Neiman-Marcus, somehow or other we left with a little bag.
In Singapore, the shopping bag is the thing – but if you are ever here I will give a dare try to go from point A to point B, without buying or eating something.
Dinner was an assortment of delectable items from Isetan and was enjoyed outside our room overlooking the pool.
The town is getting ready to celebrate Chinese New Year and I wish we were here for the celebration – they are ready to party.
Now the challenge begins packing everything.
Early morning flight home tomorrow.
