Singapore – January 22nd, 2016
We bid goodbye to Singapore our last stop in our South Asia jaunt – there is so much structure in this city-state, and everything works as smoothly as a fine Swiss Watch – I told David I could live here.
Did you know that the city is pothole-free, and although tall buildings rule the landscape, it has as many green zones and parks to equal the buildings.
Singapore Changi Airport Is one of the largest transportation hubs in Southeast Asia. It is currently the World’s Best Airport (Skytrax 2015), and is one of the world’s busiest airports by international passenger traffic and cargo traffic. The airport has continued to uphold its “Best Airport in the World” name, by winning over 500 “World’s Best Airport” awards and still counting. It is widely considered to be one of the best airports in Asia, if not worldwide.
It is also one humongous mall, but with our zero dark hundred fight only a few of the duty-free shops were open, but almost every major retailer/designer has a store here – there are also lovely designed passenger areas.
We have a short layover in Tokyo – it seems that our travels today are like a hound dog day with Friday repeating itself twice as we crossed once more the international date line.
Had to get rid of some Singapore dollars so I exchanged them for yens and David went in search of chocolates and cookies.
We are flying ANA, all the way home, outstanding service and food and beautiful polite and very service oriented flight crew – Us carriers have a long way to go. Singapore – Tokyo 6 hours smooth as glass flight Tokyo – Los Angeles 9 hours good tailwind, but with major to mild turbulence for a large majority of the flight.
As I reflect back in our last three weeks we could had not picked a more contrasting itinerary
Vietnam, Hanoi with its beautiful French architecture and choreograph mayhem of its old quarter, it’s 4 million scooters rushing like ants on a mission to the immense beauty and tranquility of Ha Long Bay to Saigon a very looking and feel western city where building cranes dominate the skyline on both sides of the river and its industrious smiling people.
To our 7 days cruising the Mekong River and literally watching life float by,
Cambodia with its horror-filled recent past to the beauty of its Temple and its landscape, to the contrasting property between its cities and the countryside it’s smiling children always with a friendly “Hello” as they look toward their future.
Singapore, a 1984 Orwellian society where everything just seems to work, to its massive shopping and eating culture and the multiple ethnicities of its people.
To meeting new friends, sharing life and travel stories, too good food and drink, to good weather although not being used to the intense humidity it was taxing at times and to the almost daily retail therapy.
To be able to share the experience with most important person in your life.
Now with memories still fresh it time to start planning our next great adventure but first Home Sweet Home.
