Vietnam – January 3rd, 2016
We left departed LAX at 12:30 am on January 2nd. Arrived in Hanoi on January 3rd at 7:20 pm – after almost 31 hours of travel that took us through Seoul, Korea, Bangkok Thailand, and finally Hanoi. two layovers but hey the tickets were acquired using United miles and in business class, comfortable but lengthily.
Asiana Airlines good service extremely good food and wine list, but their lay flatbeds a little uncomfortable for a 6’1 guy and they kept the cabins extremely warm even after complaining twice to the crew. David slept most of the way and I watched 3 forgettable movies and a bit of reading.
Seoul airport modern big and we had the chance of having our pictures taken in national costumes David an officer and me a scholar is differentiated by the hats.
Lots of shops at the airport but very homogenized it was like any other airport names brands with a few souvenir shops and duty-free shops.
Thai Airways Seoul to Hanoi with a layover in Bangkok – extremely comfortable cabins and again the food was good and also the wine list – did some shopping at the airport but just a few trinkets.
The good thing about layovers was the use of the airport clubs it makes travel less taxing.
Bangkok to Hanoi – we both slept the whole way by that time our bodies were in defunct mode – a little long wait for our E-visas but on the bright side we flew through immigration, searched for our luggage and met out Guide Tommy I’m sure that is not his real name, he looks pleasant and his English is good.
Arrived Silk Path Hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi, comfortable although small room but with a great rain shower – showered, room service and we were off to a good deserved sleep on a very comfortable bed.
Tomorrow the adventures begins.
