This week was literally quite quiet at lakeside what with the ongoing gasoline shortage here in Jalisco state. The deliveries are slightly improving, but not all stations in town are open full time. If you’re in the loop, social media alerts give the 411 on deliveries and the queues begin. This week I topped the car off after a relatively short wait ~ the gasoline gods were on my side. The governor of Jalisco and the new Mexican president are at each other’s throats over the scarcity of supply a la “45/poopy face” and big cojones Pelosi.

I made Cuban black beans in my wonderful new clay pot (cazuela) that I purchased in Oaxaca. They were marvelous if I may say so, but they just took a bit longer to make … usually cook my beans in the pressure cooker, but the texture of the beans was fantastic…….so goodbye pressure cooker.

David took a mosaics class over two days and the final product is a beautiful stepping stone of an iridescent butterfly that will now welcome our guests in the front garden. That boy is sure talented.

He’s been under the weather lately and after four days of me nagging him to go to the doctor he agreed … a visit to the Ajijic Clinic … some prescribed medications and he’s on the road to recovery.

We also went to the dentist here for the first time. I needed some work done that I’d been postponing due to the exorbitant cost NOB. My treatment schedule is at less than half the cost … go figure … a cavity was 300 pesos or roughly 16 dollars.

Friday night we were joining our friends, Mike and Daryl, for a night of a Joan Rivers impersonator. David skipped it, but I dragged along our friend, Arvada. I cannot speak for the others, but I laughed so hard my sides hurt. Yes, I’d left David convalescing at home, but why should I suffer….oy vey!

Saturday we hosted a goodbye Mexico dinner for our friend, Bev. She was the second person we met upon relocating and now she’s going back to NOB to begin a new journey. We’re going to miss her. Buena Suerte, Bev!

David went all out in decorating the house in festive Mexican motifs, including beautiful place cards. On the menu: Black Mole from Oaxaca served over chicken and rice, calabazitas (squash), fresh corn tortillas, and chocolate cake with raspberry sauce.

We never get tired of mother nature’s gift of glorious birdwatching and radiant sunsets
