“There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.” Nelson Mandela
Our last three days at Lakeside was a blurry of dinners, drinks, laughter and short goodbyes.
The time in Mexico went so fast. Maybe it was because we felt so relaxed and at peace, away from the madding, chaotic energy of Los Angeles.
On our last day in Mexico we had a workshop making the streamers for the upcoming Feria del Arte in Chapala in November. Be fittingly we had our last lunch at the same place we had our first upon arrival – the charming and tasty Cafe Montaña.
We arrived home late on Tuesday night to find everything in place, the front garden in an abundance of roses and a stack of mail 3 meters tall.
David was soon off to bed. Sleep eluded me with worries and doubt (sometimes I think I’m more Jewish than David). I worry about everything. As I walked through our house a powerful sense of melancholy overtook me along with buyers’ remorse.
I kept asking myself are you really doing this? This is a BIG scary life changing event. A voice in my head kept telling me this is not your first time – you have now a catalogue filled with life experiences – go back in time when you left Cuba as a boy with only a dream of a better life ahead and a sense of adventure. Suddenly my eyes just started leaking and felt like that boy eons ago…………ready for a new life.
Enough sappiness.
After working through my mountain of mail, started working on the task of gathering all the documentation necessary for our meeting with the Mexican consulate , I think I killed a redwood or two in the process.
Our first weekend back was a flurry of family and dear friends. I heard once somewhere said “that after seven years of friendships your friends become family” then I’m so lucky to see and practice yoga again with my yogis relatives. But as always the best part of yoga is our breakfast afterwards, this time hosted by Carolyn & Vince at their beautiful home and sumptuous breakfast buffet. It was a great place for relaxing conversation and catching up…. and of course plenty of hugs.
This weekend also happened to be my youngest great nephew and youngest nephew’s birthdays, so off we went to The Valley where temperatures hit the 100 mark. Again a very emotional reunion. We also got a chance to see my oldest nephew’s (baby’s father) new, lovely large home in Canyon Country, and a chance to scoop out my room; need to talk to him about how I want it decorated….😂 It feels good to be back home…….. but a new home awaits although the task feels daunting is not impossible
